Lessons Learnt In Our 20’s

As we’re halfway through our 20’s, we take a look back on our early 20’s and bring together a few of our best experiences, what we’ve learned and milestones reached.

Something to bear in mind regardless of what you’re currently going through is that your 20’s can be the most challenging years of your life, they can also be some of the best. There are many differences between a 20-year-old and a 29-year-old, and with various changes happening in your 20’s, you might feel as though you may never have it all figured out. Below are some life lessons we feel everyone should learn or at least be aware of.People think that you have to work really hard to be successful and that will make them happy. However, surprisingly the truth is that Success itself doesn’t make you happy; rather being happy brings you success.

Don’t live by the mindset that when you get the grade, or when you buy the house that you’ll be happy. Happiness isn’t something you should wait for. You have to fight for happiness and it has to come before anything else.

The reason is simple really. Happiness brings you success, it makes you more productive and it is the foundation for everything in your life. As such, make happiness your life’s starting line.

Don’t be afraid to experiment and try new and different things out, taste test, savour, sample and test ideas. It’s a perfect excuse to play around with ideas! But living an experimental lifestyle is not just about new things, but rather it’s about a mindset. It’s having an idea and not accepting it as fact. It’s not dismissing it, but embracing it and playing with it.

Do not waste your time trying to put the perfect plan together or trying to figure out what to do in the future . it is important to do something today, and make progress every day, remember that Rome wasn’t built in a day.

If you want to live a life you’ve never lived, you have to do things you’ve never done – simple as that. don’t let those stuck in their comfort zone deter you from stepping out of your to achieve your dreams and passions.

Assumptions are a very dangerous thing. Communicate when in doubt. You could literally be one question away from being happy in any otherwise serious situation.

You can’t please everyone – so don’t attempt to. It is better to be hated for who you are than to be loved for who you are not.

University doesn’t necessarily dictate your degree of success. Formal Education will make you a living, and self-education will make you a fortune.

Guilty of this one myself but ensure you don’t compare yourself to others. Instead, use people you admire as a source of inspiration. The comparison is the fastest way to feeling down about yourself.

Life is a journey and not a destination, its a roller coaster with ups and downs and isn’t black and white. Everything you do along your journey contributes to where you’re going.

Be selfless and don’t keep your ideas to yourself. Competitive advantage comes from assembling a strong team (together everyone achieves more) so consider organizing a mastermind group or even a co-working session to share ideas and resources.

Our minds are powerful but vulnerable. Feed your mind with positive thoughts every day. Remember your thoughts and beliefs dictate your reality! The moment you start believing in your dreams and take the right actions, your reality will begin to change.

Make a vision board and look at it as often as possible. It’s really powerful because your mind sends the image out to a source of energy (the law of attraction) which begins the process of pulling in the things you want.

There is no magical formula to success – sorry. The difference between successful and unsuccessful people is what they do with their time.

Motivation will spark change, but habits will spark long-lasting change. Therefore, develop strong habits and systems that will help you to avoid distractions and get things done.

If you’re really serious about changing your life, you’ll find a way, if not, you will find an excuse.

I want to end on ‘trust the process,’ because this is how you’ll stay ahead and not stray from your journey through life.

We have a lot more to learn and can’t wait to write the post few Lessons we Learned in our 30s in a few years. Until then:
